Making the most of a live-in carer
Updated: Sep 10, 2019
When a certain time comes, you or a family member may need additional support to aid in the recovery or the care for an illness, condition or disability. Oftentimes in these circumstances, people opt for residential care to get the required amount of round-the-clock care - something which families can’t always provide.
Whilst this can work, and has worked out the best for some families, for others it brings its own set of challenges on top of the already difficult situation.
Remaining in your own home is a comfort as it allows you to be around familiar surroundings, and have a level of comfort that sometimes a residential care home just can’t provide, simply because of the nature of it. That’s why; an alternative to achieving round-the-clock care is employing a live-in care solution in your own home.
Live-in care offers the same amount of stability and normality of living in your own home but with the help and support of a fully trained carer. This means that they can take care of things such as cooking, running errands and completing household chores to support you as best as possible.

What can a live-in carer do?
A live-in carer doesn’t have a set job description in that they can provide whatever kind of support necessary to you at the time of them supporting you. All care plans are tailored to your specific needs and requirements. Essentially, a live-in carer is a fully trained caring professional who lives with you full time, and can carry out any tasks, jobs, or errands for you as is relevant.
How does live-in care work?
We provide a free initial home assessment whereby we take a look at your personal situation, assess the amount of tasks and support that you require, and create a plan on that basis. We will get to know you, what’s important to you, your likes and dislikes in terms of how we can help to maintain your lifestyle and routine as best as possible.
All of our carers are fully vetted, have valid DBS checks. We also match your carer with you and your lifestyle to ensure that you receive the best care possible. You will need to have a spare room, which is really the only requirement necessary from your perspective, as this will facilitate the live-in carer to stay whilst they care for you round-the-clock.
How long can I have a live-in carer for?
There is no time limit on how long you can have a live-in carer in your home. Live-in care is essentially an alternative to moving into a care home, so it is a long-term solution to ensure that you can get the very best out of your life without having to move out of your much loved and cherished home.
At JRH Support, we source the right carer for you, so you don’t need to worry about that aspect. We then match the carer to you, and carry out additional checks to ensure you are suited with exactly the right carer for your situation and requirements.
If live-in care is an option that you’d like to consider or learn more about, our team are always happy to give further guidance and understanding. Get in touch with us to discuss your individual circumstances.
